We had planned to spend a week at the Finn Road Park, however, much to our surprise, we received a phone call just after checking in from Spartan Motors in Charlotte, Michigan. We had been attempting to have our coach serviced at Spartan (the OEM of our chassis), however, they seemed to be extremely busy. I had called in early May for an appointment in September and they were booked up. They offered to put me on a cancellation list, and they had a cancellation. The kind folks at Finn Road Park, allowed us to shorten our stay without a penalty and we spent 5 & 6 September with them […]
We departed Aune-Osborn for the short drive to the Lakeshore Park in St Ignace, Michigan. The Lakeshore campground is located on the northern shore of Lake Michigan, about a mile west of the Mackinac Bridge. We had a $35.00 per night, pull-in site with full hookups and a view of Lake Michigan and Mackinac Bridge. We decided to try and visit the Pictured Rocks again and we spent a day at Mackinac Island. It was an excellent campground with friendly and helpful staff. We spent a week at Lakeshore Park before crossing the Mackinac Bridge and reporting for our two-week Lighthouse Keeper duties.
We arrived at Sault St Marie, Michigan a little later than planned due to our “door” experience. We are members of the Arcadia, Florida ELKS lodge, and in May we contacted the Elks Lodge in Sault St Marie about utilizing their camping area along the waters of the St Mary’s River in Sault St Marie. They informed us it was first-come-first-serve, Elks members only. So we planned on arriving early enough to snag one of the four sites. When we arrived we were surprised to learn that they now take reservations, they were booked up and they now allow anyone to utilize their camping sites. It was a bit of a […]
From Lake Fanny Hooe we headed south to the town of Marquette and stayed at the city operated Marquette Tourist Park Campground arriving on the 1st of August and departing on the 4th. It was a satisfactory campsite and at $35 a night for 50 amp full hookup, it was reasonable for the Upper Penisula. Draft [pdf-embedder url=”http://americantradition.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Marquette_Tourist_Park_Campground_Map.pdf”] Our plan was to stay here while visiting the Pictured Rocks. However, after scheduling our Pictured Rock cruise and having it canceled due to high winds on the lake, we postponed our Pictured Rock tour till later. We did enjoy our visit to the area and had our first Pasties at Jean […]
From Stannard Township Park we drove north on to the Keweenaw Peninsula to the northern town of Copper Harbor and the Lake Fanny Hooe Campground. The area was green and the weather was relatively cool for July. As one would expect the area does get a great deal of snow with a “snow thermometer” indicating the most snow in the area occurred in the Winter of 1978-79 with 390.4 inches of snow! That’s over 32.5 feet of snow! Below is a clipping of a Google map showing the location of Copper Harbor. Location of Copper Harbor. We thought we’d booked a full hookup site, however, somehow our reservation resulted in […]
We left Kreher RV Park heading east to Stannard Township Park Campground on 27 July for a one night $15.00 stop. It is a bit out in the middle of nowhere, however, it was a good one-night stop for us. The sites had only 50amp power and water, there was a restroom facility. Leaving here we headed north to Copper Harbor…
