Sea Rim Texas State Campground ~ Sabine Pass, TX

We stayed at Sea Rim State Park along the eastern Texas Gulf Coast for 3 days in May 2018; total cost was $60.00.  The sites offer 30/50 amp and water and a paved parking area, a bit of a grassy area with a picnic table and a pole that you can hang things on.  There is a dump station across the road, near the campground. They have small buildings with pit toilets, however, no showers or laundry facilities.  You can camp in tents or any type of RV and pets are allowed. They do not have USPS mail delivery or […]

Aviation Arbor -NAS Joint Reserve Base, Belle Chasse, LA

We spent 7 days at Aviation Arbor in April 2018. The cost was $18@night for a 50A FHU site with free Navy gowifi.  Reservations were done on-line and were easy enough to do. Since we were arriving on a Sunday the staff called us the Friday before to provide our site and security code information.  There are no on-site hosts.  To get to the park, arriving from the east on I-10, we had to go into the southern outskirts of New Orleans and south through an old (built in 1954), rather small looking, 13.5’ tall tunnel – the BELLE CHASSE TUNNEL. […]

Pelican Roost Famcamp ~ Naval Station Mayport, FL

We stayed at Pelican Roost for 19 Days in April 2018 – $20 @ night. Arrival – The signage to get to the park is non existent, so make sure you ask the gate guards at the main gate for directions. There are two different streets that lead to the park entrance and either can accommodate larger rigs. Just FYI, there are two RV Parks (Pelican Roost and Osprey Cove)  on the base so make sure they do not send you to the wrong park. We really enjoyed staying at Pelican Roost.  It was a nicely maintained, quiet, peaceful park, […]

Finn Road Park ~ Essexville, Michigan

We had planned to spend a week at the Finn Road Park, however, much to our surprise, we received a phone call just after checking in from Spartan Motors in Charlotte, Michigan. We had been attempting to have our coach serviced at Spartan (the OEM of our chassis), however, they seemed to be extremely busy. I had called in early May for an appointment in September and they were booked up. They offered to put me on a cancellation list, and they had a cancellation. The kind folks at Finn Road Park, allowed us to shorten our stay without a […]

Lakeshore Park Campground ~ St Ignace, Michigan

We departed Aune-Osborn for the short drive to the Lakeshore Park in St Ignace, Michigan. The Lakeshore campground is located on the northern shore of Lake Michigan, about a mile west of the Mackinac Bridge.  We had a $35.00 per night, pull-in site with full hookups and a view of Lake Michigan and Mackinac Bridge.     We decided to try and visit the Pictured Rocks again and we spent a day at Mackinac Island. It was an excellent campground with friendly and helpful staff. We spent a week at Lakeshore Park before crossing the Mackinac Bridge and reporting for […]

Aune-Osborn Campground ~ Sault Ste Marie, Michigan

We arrived at Sault St Marie, Michigan a little later than planned due to our “door” experience. We are members of the Arcadia, Florida ELKS lodge, and in May we contacted the Elks Lodge in Sault St Marie about utilizing their camping area along the waters of the St Mary’s River in Sault St Marie. They informed us it was first-come-first-serve, Elks members only. So we planned on arriving early enough to snag one of the four sites. When we arrived we were surprised to learn that they now take reservations, they were booked up and they now allow anyone to […]

Marquette Tourist Park Campground ~ Marquette, Michigan

From Lake Fanny Hooe we headed south to the town of Marquette and stayed at the city operated Marquette Tourist Park Campground arriving on the 1st of August and departing on the 4th. It was a satisfactory campsite and at $35 a night for 50 amp full hookup, it was reasonable for the Upper Penisula. Draft Our plan was to stay here while visiting the Pictured Rocks. However, after scheduling our Pictured Rock cruise and having it canceled due to high winds on the lake, we postponed our Pictured Rock tour till later. We did enjoy our visit to the […]

Lake Fanny Hooe Resort and Campground ~ Copper Harbor, Michigan

From Stannard Township Park we drove north on to the Keweenaw Peninsula to the northern town of Copper Harbor and the Lake Fanny Hooe Campground. The area was green and the weather was relatively cool for July. As one would expect the area does get a great deal of snow with a “snow thermometer”  indicating the most snow in the area occurred in the Winter of 1978-79 with 390.4 inches of snow! That’s over 32.5 feet of snow!    Below is a clipping of a Google map showing the location of Copper Harbor. Location of Copper Harbor. We thought we’d booked […]

Kreher RV Park ~ Ashland, Wisconsin

The Kreher RV Park is a nice 31 site city-operated RV campground, although, as with many of the northern campgrounds it does not have sewer at the site, only a dump station. It is also a first-come-first-serve campground, with many multi-month residents who take the water view sites early in the camping season.  We stayed there from 20 to 27 July 2017. It has a small park with playgrounds, restrooms, and showers. No laundry, however, a nice public laundromat is about a half mile away. We enjoyed our time there in spite of the adjacent SUPERFUND cleanup site. We learned about […]
