Spartan Motors ~ Charlotte, Michigan

We arrived at Spartan about 9 AM on Thursday the 7th of September. Chris McChord and our assigned mechanic, Joe Bullen were waiting for us. We’ve been to Spartan before and knew the procedure, they provide electric and water sites next door and they take your coach in for service and return it around 4 PM. Our goal was to have an Exhaust Recall looked at, the coach weighed, the transmission serviced and their “Chassis Inspection” completed. The recall was resolved without issue. They inspected our chassis, and then took us under the coach to show us the various things […]

SnapPad Jack Pads ~ A better solution?

We have not enjoyed the process of collecting various wooden blocks to serve as “Jack Pads” for our 41,260-pound coach. We had various versions and we have explored the possibility of purchasing many different conventional plastic/rubber jack pads. While searching, I stumbled across a SnapPad advertisement about a year ago and I liked the idea of a one-time installation and no more crawling around on your hands and knees trying to align the jack pad to the jack. However, after researching I learned that they did not make their SnapPad product for our motorhome. Then in early July of this […]

Our Door and the Wind

So today, 4 August, while driving east out of Marquette, Michigan on Route 28, (Coordinates 46°26’08.4″N 86°49’19.4″W) the wind was gusting fairly strong out of the north across the Gitche Gumee, often putting a heavy spray of water onto Route 28. The gusts were maybe 40-50 mph and we were about 40 miles east of Marquette along one particularly narrow stretch of roadway right along the water. Imagine my surprise when I look at my passenger side camera and notice our second from the front, basement door on the passenger-side (the largest one) is standing wide open. I’m driving 55mph […]

One more piece of glass, Ike’s new windshield…

After a series of unusual events and errors involving our Magne Shade sunscreens, Ike’s windshield cracked down the driver’s side and needed to be replaced. The cracked developed on our journey south last November, however, we decided to wait till we were about to head out of Torrey Oaks to have the work completed, and we combined the trip with our tire replacement. Like most things involving motorhome repairs, you get a multitude of opinions on which dealers you should use and why, most of which turns out to be outdated or hearsay.  We had received our check from the insurance […]

New shoes for Ike

After about 12 months of researching and searching, we finally located a tire dealer (Conlan Tire, Mulberry, FL) to purchase our 6ea Continental Conti Coach HA3 (L) tires. After much debate, we decided to purchase the HA3s to replace our aging Michelin XZA 1s that were original equipment. Why Conlan? Conlan had reasonably fresh stock of our size (315/80R22.5) tires with a great price ($399 ea. +FET), they were participants in the FMCA tire program which is how I found them initially and most importantly they had a willingness to mount and dismount our front two tires with Tyron Bands. If […]

Our Winter – Golf, cleaning tanks and other fun…

I realize that I am a bit behind on our posts, so let me hit the highlights. We remained parked at Torrey Oaks RV Resort and participating in the full set of activities it affords. Stephanie has been extremely engaged in the day-to-day activities. She has been going to the daily workouts at the Fitness Center, Yoga, Walking, Water Aerobics & Line Dancing classes while also participating in the weekly Warm up America and the local Sewing/Quilting for Charity group and golf classes. One of the highlights of our time here at Torrey Oaks has been some golfing. Stephanie has never held a […]
