Kreher RV Park ~ Ashland, Wisconsin

The Kreher RV Park is a nice 31 site city-operated RV campground, although, as with many of the northern campgrounds it does not have sewer at the site, only a dump station. It is also a first-come-first-serve campground, with many multi-month residents who take the water view sites early in the camping season.  We stayed there from 20 to 27 July 2017. It has a small park with playgrounds, restrooms, and showers. No laundry, however, a nice public laundromat is about a half mile away. We enjoyed our time there in spite of the adjacent SUPERFUND cleanup site. We learned about […]

Lakehead Boat Basin Marina & Campground ~ Duluth, Minnesota

From our stay at Vermilion Sunsets campground, we headed to the big city of Duluth. Our friends from Minnesota, Jeanette and Ron, had recommended we visit Duluth and the Lakehead Boat Basin. It was a bit of a challenge to get reservations, and we had to jiggle our schedule around to get a few days reserved. We were glad we did. Lakehead Boat Basin is not your usual campground as it is in downtown Duluth on the water of the Duluth Harbor. You will need to cross the Duluth Aerial Bridge to arrive at the campground. We did not notice […]

Vermilion Sunsets RV Park ~ Cook, Minnesota

We found this park after a bit of searching for a campground near the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary. We stayed there July 12-16, 2017. They did have a website, however, it seems that it is now gone. Here is the contact info I have for the campground: Dave Hampson Phone: 218-666-2276 2475 Vermilion Dr Cook, MN 55723 The folks that run Timbuktu Marine, which is next door, also run the campground. The campground was perfect for what we needed, it was quiet, easy access and had 50 amp full hookups. And at $25 @ night it was reasonable. […]

Vermilion Falls ~ Buyck, Minnesota

The Vermilion Sunsets RV Park staff suggested we journey north to the Vermilion Falls, the staff said: “it’s just up the road.” So we turned north out the entrance and expected we would be at the falls shortly. So imagine our surprise when we drove about 5 miles and the paved road turn to dirt and Google Maps said we were about 40 minutes away. What we learned is that “just up the road” is much farther away when you live out in the boonies, opposed to folks that live in more urban areas… LOL. It really was out in […]

Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary

Yesterday we visited the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota. Here is a video I put together of the visit. It was $10 donation per person to visit. And we very much enjoyed the 3 hours we spent viewing the wild bears from an elevated boardwalk. Here is a link to the Google Photo Album with many more images of the 30+ bears that we saw while visiting. If you ever travel near this area, you certainly need to make a visit.

Deparcq Woods Campground, Camp Ripley, Minnesota

We departed Dakotah Meadows and drove northwest to a National Guard Post just north of Little Falls, a 58,000-acre military reservation named Camp Ripley and more specifically the Deparcq Woods Campground. I’d never heard of Camp Ripley and we were surprised at how large the camp was and how active the airfield was while we were there. It was a very nice campground, we had cell service, 50A service, water and there was a dump station near the campground. They also provided free firewood. We arrived mid-afternoon and found the billeting office and registered. We were informed that the host […]

Dakotah Meadows Campground, Prior Lake, MN

After our stay in Mason City, Iowa we continued north toward the Twin Cities. We planned on a week at the Dakotah Meadows Campground, however, when I called 8 weeks out, they were booked. However, a last minute call, a few days before, got us a reservation for a couple nights. This campground is part of the Dakotah Indian properties which also includes the Mystic Casino, stores, an RV wash and a diesel/gasoline station. We arrived just after noon and due to the on and off showers, as we were driving north, Ike was in need of a good cleaning. […]
