After a short drive from Panama City we found our way to the Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area near Pensacola. It was our first visit and we learned there are three different campground locations associated with the Pensacola NAS. One of the campgrounds is located near the National Naval Aviation Museum, it is Oak Grove Park, the other two are located about 10 miles west, they are referred to as Section A & B, and as Anchor Cove & Battleship Row respectively. Anchor Cove has only 30amp power, water and a dump station, Battleship Row has full 50amp hookups all paved streets and large size concrete pad sites. Both sites are located adjacent to an oddly landscaped location with old slabs of concrete about the size of several football fields.
We booked a 7-day stay at the Battleship Row campground and it was surprisingly full, there was about 8 empty site when we arrived early on a Monday afternoon most filled by later in the day. We found a nice site with Dish Satellite access.
The Recreation Area rents sailboats and there is a boat ramp, and several picnic pavilions, a disc golf and paintball course. We very much enjoyed our time (17-24 April 2017) in the Pensacola Area, we spent time a couple days visiting the fantastic National Naval Aviation Museum, we attended the Blue Angels Practice show twice and visited the Pensacola Lighthouse and Fort Barrancas.
