While at Weston Lake Campground we traveled about 30 minutes south to visit the Congaree National Park. We walked only part of the elevated boardwalk, as part of it was damaged during hurricane Matthew.
The most interesting thing was the tremendous loblolly pine trees. They claim there some loblolly trees within the park that are 12-15 stories tall. We didn’t see any that tall but we did see some very tall ones.
Much of the area was cover in standing water.
And to add to the confusion there is another “Weston Lake” within the park, Ha!
It was all free, the one downside was the mosquito population was overbearing, we bought some repellent at the visitor’s center which seemed to work well. However, they were buzzing around our heads the entire time.
